Welcome to Portmarnock Raceway’s new website. The site will differ from other sites in that we have made it fully interactive and its hoped that the site will be primarily used as a central hub for all everything concerning Portmarnock Raceway and the sport of harness racing.
For a start in the Portmarnock Plus section we have designed a new iphone application (or or any smartphone) whereby users can download this app and physically video races themselves from Portmarnock as they happen and upload these races instantly for the wider public to view “almost live” on the site No more texts about which-horse-won what…..seeing is believing!
Portmarnock Plus will also contain a “From all other tracks” section and its hoped that we can encourage users to video races on their smartphone as they happen from other tracks in the UK and Ireland and instantly upload them for us all to see.
Finally, the Portmarnock Plus section will have an Archive of races from Portmarnock down through the years and its hoped to showcase action from the 1970s through to 2004 when the venue originally closed.
For the first month of racing in 2011, Portmarnock Plus can be accessed free of charge but after this period there will be an annual subscription to this component of the site. This will represent excellent value for all those enthusiasts who wish to view racing from both Portmarnock and right throughout the UK and Ireland (provided like-minded users upload their own videos at these courses for us all to enjoy!)It is hoped that in the near future racing will shown “live” in real time using the tracks professional camera work, but until such time as this pioneering concept can be implemented viewers can enjoy the basic Portmarnock Plus weekly racing dvds “almost live”
Our Gallery will have photos of every meeting’s racing and you can purchase any of these photos instantly on the site and they will be posted to the address of your choice. The Gallery will also display photos of Irish harness racing from down through the years and it will encourage web-site users to scan in and upload all their own videos.
Another feature we have introduced is the Classifieds section. Not only will you be able view adverts for harness, equipment, feed and vitamin supplements etc we have also designed a Horses For Sale sub-section whereby adverts can be taken out featuring an uploaded “video” of that particular horse running in a selected race. Such a facility will enable viewers to see how a horse performs before placing a call to the respective owner enquiring to potentially buy the horse. Stallion Services adverts can also be taken out or viewed on the site under the classifieds section.
Finally, we have implemented a complete social networking package to the site containing a live Blog, Twitter and Facebook page. The Blog will feature entries, form guides, results and a review of each meeting from Portmarnock. Twitter will have live updates of any “news” relating to the track of forthcoming events/races etc while the Facebook component will encourage users to post up their own views and opinions on all matters relating to Portmarnock.
